Ganondorf is a character in Super Smash Bros. Crusade that was first playable in v0.9 TEST. Unlike Link, his design is based off his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or more precisely, in Space World 2000 GameCube Tech Demo and Super Smash Bros. Melee, rather than in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Ganondorf is most often associated with the "stronger and slower" Captain Falcon clone in the Super Smash Bros. series, but in Crusade, he has a completely different and unique fighting style, using magic and swords. Recently he has experienced an overhaul in the update of v0.9.3 where many things about him have changed.

Takashi Nagasako's portrayal of Ganondorf was repurposed for Crusade. Since v0.9.3, his voice clips are taken from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

How to Unlock (v0.9.1 to v0.9.3 only)[]

  • Play 90 or more crusades.
  • Clear Classic Mode on either the Hard difficulty or higher while playing as Link.

In order to unlock Ganondorf, you must satisfy one of the above conditions and then beat Ganondorf in a crusade.

Attributes[]

Ganondorf is a character with a lot of really good ups and some severe downs. First of all, Ganondorf is a heavyweight, which means he doesn't get launched away as far as other characters. So he survives longer than other characters, but that also means his opponents can combo him more easily. So he generally takes more damage. He also has a quite low movement and aerial speed, which means he has a bad disadvantage state. He also has some problems with landing, since his neutral air attack has a pretty high start-up and his down air attack doesn't have a big hitbox. Since he doesn't have his float anymore, he's limited to airdoging or using his down special or a well-timed neutral air attack to land.

That said, Ganondorf makes up for his downfalls with a lot of good attributes. First of all, his damage output is very high, dealing +10% on almost every move and some moves even +15%. His KO-power is also ample if not as high as in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. He has a lot of moves that will KO below 130%, like his side tilt attack, back air attack, up tilt attack, down tilt attack, forward smash attack, dash attack attack and up air attack.

Ganondorf also has a lot of really big disjoints as would be expected of a sword character. Not to mention, he also has a projectile that has significant payoff if it lands. His recovery is also quite maneuverable, even if it lacks a hitbox, and he is able to attack while recovering. He also has some mixups with approaching. He can approach with forward air attack, neutral air attack, neutral special, down special and back air attack. A lot of these moves are decently safe on shield even when the move misses the opponent.

Ganondorf doesn't have any viable or consistent combos except for landing neutral air attack into a grab or a down tilt attack. He does have a great advantage state, since he has a lot of quick moves with big disjoints, so when he gets in there, he is able to do massive damage. This makes Ganondorf a quite easy character to pick-up and play in general, but it will take some time to optimize his gameplay.

Moveset[]

Name
Damage
Description
Neutral Attack
4% Leans forward with a single fist strike. If the attack button is held down, Ganondorf launches a multi-hit attack with a forward reach, accompanied by a faint windbox. Notable is that the first fist strike does not combo into the rapid jab at the edge, since your opponent tumbles under the edge before the multi-hit comes out.
Flurry Attack
2% (loop)
Flurry Attack to KO
4%
Dash Attack
Skull Splitter 16% An overhand based on his forward air attack in the official Super Smash Bros. series. The hitbox is not large, but knockback is strong.
Forward Tilt Attack 1
Piercing Kick 10% A front kick based on the kick used by himself and other large, sword-wielding enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Up to this point, it is the same as in the official Smash series, but if the attack button is pressed again, he slashes further with his sword. Has a great range and can hit opponents hanging off the edge of the stage. The total damage inflicted is 20%, which is more than even an average smash attack.
Forward Tilt Attack 2
10%
Up Tilt Attack
19% Opens and then closes his fist to create a explosion in front of him with good horizontal and a bit of vertical range. Notable is that is may miss some ducking opponents. It is his strongest tilt attack.
Down Tilt Attack
4% (hit 1), 12% (hit 2) Punches into the ground while crouching. A two-hit attack and has a dark effect, with good horizontal range.
Forward Smash Attack
Stone Slayer 25-43.75% (forward), 25-32.5% (back) A lunging, two-handed downward sword slash, also known as "DORIYAH". Has a big hitbox and it can hit under the edge just like his side tilt attack. This move is rather slow, so it is very punishable, but very rewarding when you land it.
Up Smash Attack
8-15.5% (thunderbolt, body clean), 4-11.5% (body late), 16-23.5% (sword clean), 7-14.5% (sword late 1), 6-13.5% (sword late 2) Lightning strikes his sword. Has a electric effect and it has a good upper range. The lightning spikes to push the opponent into the sword. The hit with the sword has high knockback.
Down Smash Attack
Linked Strikes 4-11.5% (hit 1), 12-19.5% (hit 2) Kneels and thrusts the sword hilt forward, then performs a reverse gripped thrust behind himself.
Neutral Air Attack
4% (hit 1), 6% (hit 2) Creates dark energy around him. Possible to combo into a side tilt attack or a grab when landing with this move at low percents.
Forward Air Attack
14% (sword), 10% (arm) A downward sword slash. The move has a big disjoint and it is a very quick move (probably his fastest air attack). Prior to v0.9.3, it was used as a neutral air attack.
Back Air Attack
14% Swings his sword. Has a long horizontal range and also hits a little diagonally below Ganondorf during the swing. Just like forward air attack a quick aerial for him.
Up Air Attack
14% (tip), 12% (blade, late) Swings his sword upwards. Has a large horizontal and vertical hitbox above him. It is Ganondorf's main vertical KO move.
Down Air Attack
Thunder Drop 19% A double foot stomp similar to Captain Falcon's. It discharges electricity upon landing and an unleashes extremely powerful meteor smash.
Grab
Reaches out with his hand. Despite Ganondorf's tall stature, its reach is short.
Grab Attack
2% A knee strike.
Forward Throw
Warlock Punch 1.5% (hits 1-7), 5% (hit 8) Traps the opponent in the void and charges up his fist before he punches his opponent. It is his main KO throw and it deals the most damage out of all his throws.
Backward Throw
Rear Kick 9% Throws the opponent behind himself and hits them with a sidekick.
Upward Throw
9% Turns around and kicks the opponent at a higher angle. Can lead into a back air attack if the opponent isn't paying attention.
Downward Throw
7% Throws the opponent at a lower angle. It will be harder for the opponent to recover, since Ganondorf throws them at a downward angle.
Neutral Special
Dead Man Thunder 3% (hit 1), 2% (hit 2) Holding down the special button, Ganondorf starts building up energy. When the button is released, Ganondorf will throw bolts of electricity (1-5 bolts depending on how long you charged). These bolts fly forward in a wavy motion. The second hit stuns the opponent leaving them open for a follow up.
Dead Man's Volley & Drift 4% (cape flip) If bolts remain, Ganondorf swings his cape to reflect projectiles. It is based on a move Ganondorf used in his boss battle in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as well as his neutral special in Project M.
Side Special
Flame Choke 15% Lunges forward with his hand extended out and infused with dark magic. Upon contact, he grabs the opponent's face and blasts them with a pulse of dark magic that drops them onto the ground. In the air, Ganondorf grabs onto and descends in order to chokeslam them to the ground, or to the lower blast line in a suicide KO if used off-stage (known as "Ganoncide"). Due to functioning as a grab, it bypasses shields and counterattacks. Moderately slow startup and surprisingly poor reach as the grab box does not even cover Ganondorf's hand.
Up Special
Dark Lift Begins to float in the air and can move freely in any direction. While levitating, he can defend himself against opponents by launching air attacks or special moves.
Down Special
Wizard Smash 14% (ground), 1% (air hits 1-5), 6% (air hits 6), 4% (landing) On the ground, propels forward with his sword. Simply put, he uses a sword to perform the Wizard's Foot used in the official Smash series. In the air, Ganondorf channels electricity for a brief moment before slamming downwards fist first, meteor smashing anyone who gets hit. The position of the fall can be adjusted to the left or right, and he generates a shockwave as he strikes the ground.
Final Smash
Final Ganon Slash 8% (appearance), 38% (greatsword) Transforms into the fearsome beast Ganon, and slowly swings his right sword.
Edge Attack
7% Same animation as a dash attack.
Get-Up Attack
12% Gets up and exhausts dark energy. Similar to a neutral aerial attack, but with different effects.
Description
On-screen appearance
Emerges from a liquid-like vortex of darkness.
Taunt
Floats in the air and then curls into a ball while spinning before opening up from his curled position and striking a pose while laughing. Resembles his transformation into Ganon before the final battle in Ocarina of Time.
Victory pose
Raises his sword.
